課程概述 Course Description
This course aims to provide a comprehensive exposure to advanced English Grammar with a close comparison of British and American usage. The course is most suitable for students with the equivalent level as determined by the Council of Europe level C1 or those at a similar level as students able to write the Cambridge ESOL exams CAE/CPE. The major emphasis is on preparing students for any upcoming competency exams as well as helping those interested in improving their grammar and English usage for their English Composition courses at an undergraduate level.

課程目標 Course Objectives
By the end of the term successful students will be able to:
1. Identify and deal with the complexities of the rules and usages of all the verb tenses with some special attention to the difficulties of the past-perfect tense.
2. Identify and deal with the major areas of advanced English grammar in terms of the most difficult instances of the following: Conditionals, Unreal and Time and Subjunctives, Inversion, Emphasis, Reported Speech, Articles, Relatives and Non-Finite Clauses, Verbs plus Infinitive or –ing, Verbs plus Prepositions, Phrasal Verbs, Linking Words and Phrases, Passives, Modals: present and future, Modals: past.
3. Identify the major differences between British and American sentence structure and vocabulary and grammatical rules.
